Sad to say, but it has taken us 6 years to get Jeff a marker. Some places we contacted said they couldn’t do what we wanted. There was one company a couple years ago we were about to do business with in Chattanooga and they went out of business. Several marker places have went out of business the last couple years.
Patsy talked to a company in Miami Florida and they put her in touch with a company in Marietta Ga. This guy was awesome. Never said he couldn’t do it, he just ask Patsy to tell him a little about Jeff. “When you think of Jeff what comes to mind” he asked her. Of course she said computers and bacon. He sent us a few mockups he did on the computer and after a few changes he had what Patsy wanted.
This was back at the first of April. He said he would do everything possible to get this put down by the anniversary of Jeff’s death July 17th. Because of Covid and everyone laying back at home drawing and nobody wants to work, he couldn’t promise us. He got it done and we had some pretty bad rains but he managed to get it down on the 16th.
Patsy was telling him about the bacon Jeff like to get from Benton’s Smoky Mountain Country Hams and told him if he could do this she would get him some of the best bacon he had ever eat. He made it happen so we ordered some bacon. We drove to Marietta and took him the bacon as promised. The person that helped us get this accomplished was Randy Hubbard of Roberts-Shields Memorials. He was an awesome person to work with. He went out of his way to help us with everything.
Here are a few photos we took after it was put in place. It’s black granite with Jeff’s favorite color green on the bronze. This is not exactly what we wanted but some things we wanted were copyrighted and some were going to be way too expensive for us to afford.
I was looking up old friends and remembered your site. I was friends with Jeff, but really only knew him as tetraboy; he helped me out when I had an old web hosting radio station. He always amazed me with how great he was with computers at such a young age.
This marker is an awesome memorial to him, thank you for sharing.
