Christmas is right around the corner and I got to thinking about when Jeff visited us back in 2011. Jeff had come to spend a few days at Christmas with us. After Jeff moved to Atlanta holidays became special for his mom and I, because it was one of the few times during the year we had him back home with us for a few days.
During Christmas we get to go visit with family, and Patsy worked at JC Penney so she didn’t get much time off. So we would do as much as we could together. We were never at home on Christmas day so we would open presents to each other on a day when we didn’t have a get together with family. On this Christmas after we were done opening presents I asked Jeff if I got him everything he wanted. He replied “You didn’t get me a pony”. We got a good laugh out of that.
The next morning when I got up I went to the back door to look out and check the weather. It just so happens there was a pony in my back yard. So I called Jeff to the back door and said “Well there’s your pony. Is that what you wanted.” He wasn’t sure what to think. He said “You didn’t really get me a pony did you?”. I didn’t even have to answer, he could tell by the smile on my face I didn’t get him a pony. But it was funny that he thought for a minute that I might have. After Jeff telling me I didn’t get him a pony the night before, this made our morning.
It was Christmas Eve and Patsy had to work so Jeff and I had a day with the pony. We thought whoever the pony belonged to would come looking for it. We kept an eye out for someone to come but no one showed. The road into our subdivision from the main road is on top of a blind hill. You can’t see what’s over it till you are at the top. The pony started moving close to the main road that ran by our house. Some of the cars go a little fast, and we didn’t want to see the pony get hit and maybe possible hurt a family on their way to a Christmas get together. So we went outside and I got a rope and we lassoed the pony and tied him to a tree.
We made a couple calls and got the Sheriff’s Dept. and Animal Control to come out. They did a little searching around and found where they thought the pony had come from. So they came back to our house and led the pony to where it belonged. It had gotten out of a make shift corral and they put it back in the corral. We felt better knowing the pony wouldn’t cause an accident or get anyone hurt at Christmas. Jeff thought this was so cool he even posted it on his Facebook. Jeff and I both took pictures with our phone and had a great time telling our friends about Jeff’s Christmas Pony.
